We are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our Calgary based team.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, this critical role is responsible for all commercial and contract related matters, as well as development and maintenance of a project subcontracting strategy.  

 Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Compliance with all Clough Operating Standards throughout project delivery and ensuring Operating Standards relating to contracting are adhered to at all times
  • Develop and maintain a project subcontracting strategy
  • Tendering and formation of all subcontracts
  • Review project budget and ensure adequate allocation to subcontracts to reflect subcontracting strategy on project
  • Effective administration of the head contract and all subcontracts to optimise earnings on project
  • Management and resolution of all claims in the most efficient timeframe
  • Provide input to cost control and forecasting of final cost at completion position and forecast final project earnings
  • Develop and deliver commercial training tailored for the specific project
  • Provide commercial and contract advice and support to project team members
  • Participate in project risk and opportunity reviews on a minimum monthly frequency
  • Liaise with Insurance and Commercial Advisor to ensure adequate insurance is in place under the head contract

You should possess the following:

  • Degree Qualification in Business / Law or engineering related fields or significant on the job experience with part professional qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the construction and engineering industry, with significant (10+ years) experience as a Contracts or Commercial Manager
  • Experience working on large scale resource projects
  • Experience managing a commercial team within a project
  • Knowledge of contracting and subcontracting principles, cost control and forecasting and risk management
  • Contract administration process skills including change orders, payment, scheduling, ITTs, bid list formulation and close out subcontracts

Candidates with extensive experience in managing lump sum projects or projects which require extensive management of performance and delivery risks, will be looked upon favourably.

This role requires an individual with high problem solving, negotiation and analytical skills, along with excellent communication skills to motivate, inspire and persuade.
